Damayan Migrant Workers Association - Communications Strategist

As a Communications Strategist at a grassroots, front line, Filipino migrants association, I designed and led messaging that advanced the rights, empowerment and agency of Filipino migrant communities. I shaped narrative direction across digital platforms, campaigns, press engagement, and community outreach—ensuring every message was intentional, resonant, and rooted in trust.

Against a migrant crisis and an anti-immigrant environment, I spearheaded strategic rapid response communications, crafting timely bilingual communications, producing “Know Your Rights” materials and coordinating workshops to meet urgent community needs. My approach balanced clarity and cultural relevance to reach diverse audiences with precision and care - in both English and Tagalog.

At the core of my work was a commitment to feedback-driven strategy. I prioritized ongoing dialogue with community members and partners to ensure our messaging evolved with urgent, real-time realities. Grounded in both technical skill and deep cultural fluency, my communications practice built trust, amplified impact, was instrumental in community defense and equipped communities to navigate an evolving and dire situation on the ground.

During my time there, we had distributed over 1,000 “Know Your Rights” (KYR) cards and supporting materials, conducted bi-monthly KYR trainings which were always at capacity, and provided pro-bono legal services to Filipino migrant workers. Serving over 1,000 community members, I helped this organization realize a strengthened community, where people can move without fear, and with consideration for other community members.
